If you carry a bag of any kind and do not already own one of these, then make sure to put it on your Saturday shopping list! What is it, you ask? Why, it’s a carabiner! It’s pronounced “CARE-UH-BEAN-ER” and is useful for many things.
And no, it’s not one of those cheap-o ones you get at the register on your way out of some discount store and then breaks two days later. It’s the real kind that mountain climbers use, the kind found at a quality outdoor sports store.
Why? It’s simple, really.
With a carabiner, you have: an instant hook for the bathroom; a way to carry a heavy bag without the skinny handles digging into your skin; a way to keep track of your keys within your bag; and a carabiner provides way to attach small shopping bags to your hand or shoulder bag to remain hands-free – especially if you have a small child with you!
Real carabiners used for mountain-climbing are great because they’re made to hold a force greater than most things you may find yourself carrying on any given Saturday. And, unlike those other hooks, they rarely break and are small enough not to be a nuisance or cumbersome.
The fun thing about them is that they come in a variety of colors and different closing features. The ones pictured here have “straight gate” closures, just in case you want to go to your local outdoor sports store today! They usually range in cost from $6.95 on up.
One caveat: Carabiners may not be under warranty when used for any other purpose than their intended use. Having said that, though, ENJOY!
